Another Loss

For the first time since August 2019, the Los Angeles Dodgers have lost three consecutive games as they dropped Tuesday’s contest to the Cincinnati Reds 6-to-5. The Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants are tied for first place in the National League Western Division.

Before the game, the Dodgers sent Garrett Cleavinger to the alternate site and recalled DJ Peters. They also put Victor Gonzàlez and Mitch White on the IL since they have bad side effects from a vaccination. Baseball allows teams to put players on the IL who have bad side effects to the vaccine.

Walker Buehler pitched well for 6.1 innings where he struck out ten. He had his curveball working for the first time during the 2021 season. While he allowed three runs to a strong offensive Red team, he should have received the win.

Although the Reds outhit the Dodgers, the Dodgers made the most out of their four hits. Still, the Dodgers are mired in a slump. Will Smith’s three-run homer and Matt Beaty’s two-run double provided enough for the Dodgers to win if Scott Alexander pitched satisfactorily.

Dennis Santana and Jimmy Nelson pitched brilliantly in relief. For some unknown reason, the Dodger organization likes Alexander, but he rarely pitches well. While ground-ball pitchers are an asset since they don’t use many pitches, they should not be relievers. Often, relievers come in with runners on base, so they need to strike out. Every time a hitter makes contact, he can get a hit, even with the shift. Manager Dave Roberts should not bring in Alexander with runners on base.
