Monday, at Talking Stick in Arizona, the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-to-3.

Earlier in spring training, the Dodgers designated Matt Beaty for assignment. Monday, they traded Beaty to the San Diego Padres for a minor league two-way player. Although Dodger fans love the left-handed power hitter, the Dodgers did not have room for one-dimensional Beaty. He is a poor defender everywhere. Hopefully, the Padres will give Beaty an opportunity to show what he can do in the Major Leagues.

Clayton Kershaw pitched brilliantly for four innings, facing the minimum. During his outing, Kershaw showcased his changeup with a new grip. No one knows whether he will use his changeup during the regular 2021 season or not. If he stays healthy, Kershaw will play an integral role in the 2022 Dodger starting rotation.

Victor González, coming off a disappointing 2021 season, pitched well for 1.1 innings. Barring an injury before Opening Day, González will play a significant role in the Dodger bullpen.

In the first, Max Muncy’s grounder scored Freddie Freeman after his walk and Trea Turner’s single. In the third, Turner singled in Austin Barnes. In the eighth inning, Edwin Ríos, after missing almost the entire 2021 season, homered.
