Before the Major League Baseball lockout commenced, the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a $17 million one-year contract with Cody Bellinger.
While Bellinger earned the 2017 National League Rookie of the Year and the 2019 National League MVP, he had a miserable 2021 season until the postseason. He had a hairline fracture in his calf, two hamstring strains, and a cracked rib. Coming off an offseason shoulder surgery, Bellinger had decreased strength, affecting his ability to control the bat. He lacked power and constantly struck out.
His injuries did not affect Bellinger’s defense and preserved many victories.
President Andrew Friedman seems to be convinced Bellinger can contribute that to the Dodgers in the 2022 season.
