Cody Bellinger’s seventh-inning solo home run sent his Los Angeles Dodgers to the World Series as they inched out the Atlanta Braves 4-to-3.

Although neither Dustin May nor Tony Gonsolin pitched well, the Dodgers received excellent pitching from Blake Treinen, Brusdar Graterol, and Julio Urìas. The Braves made a huge base-blunder that allowed the Dodgers to get out of a fourth-inning jam. Again, Mookie Betts robbed a home run from Freddy Freeman.

Urìas was the MVP of Game 7. He pitched perfect three innings Sunday after he threw 105 pitches on Wednesday. He used all his pitches and had almost perfect control. After Betts’ remarkable catch, the Braves began swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. The Braves’ impatient at-bats helped Urìas.

The Dodgers waited to score until the third inning. Throughout the game, the Dodgers were patient at the plate. Will Smith, a young catcher, had a 2-run single to tie the game.

Kiké Hernandez came off the bench to pinch-hit for Joc Pederson. Not knowing for his patience, Hernandez fought off seven pitches before he hit a game-tying home run.

Cody Bellinger has had a rough offensive season, and it continued into the NLCS. However, without his superb centerfield defense, Bellinger’s team would not have advanced to the World Series. Throughout the 2020 season, he chased many balls out of the strike zone. In the seventh inning, he took seven pitches, fouling off pitches, and AJ Minter made a huge mistake in the center in the strike zone. Bellinger did not miss that mistake, and after the home run, most Dodger fans should have known their favorite team was going to the World Series.

Of course, Corey Seager won the MVP in the NLCS. He had 5 home runs, and he had many RBI. However, without Betts’ stellar defense, the Dodgers would not have gone to the World Series.

The Dodgers are a team that will be at 3 World Series out of the last 4 years. Twice in franchise history, they had been to the World Series 3 out of 4 years. Sunday belongs to the celebration for the Dodgers.
