On a picturesque Friday evening at Dodger Stadium, Cody Bellinger hit the first Dodger grand slam of the 2022 season. The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 5-to-1.

Justin Turner could not play Friday since he has a tight abdominal muscle, but the Dodgers think Turner does not need to go on the IL.

While Logan Webb toiled in the first when he walked Gavin Lux in the first inning to score Mookie Betts, he lasted six innings.

Although Tyler Anderson did not have his best stuff, he allowed an unearned run through his six innings. He had a good fastball and slider to keep the Giants off balance, but he did not feel his changeup working well. Anderson allowed 4 hits, walked two, and struck out 6.

After a rough night, the Dodger bullpen bounced back. David Price pitched well, but Yency Almonte struggled a lot in the eighth. A night after he allowed a grand slam to Darien Ruf, Alex Vesia rebounded and got the last out in the eighth.

Freddie Freeman, who continued his torrid hitting, opened the bottom of the eighth with an opposite-field single, and Max Muncy took advantage of the Giants’ poor defense to get on. To load the bases, Jake Lamb was hit by a pitch. Having another difficult season offensively, Bellinger battled a tough left-hander until he got a hanging curveball to deposit into the right-field stands.

Since July 2019, Bellinger has toiled offensively, and this frustrated Dodger fans. During the 2020 season, he had many important hits to help the Dodgers to win their first world championship. In the 2021 season, for the first time during his Major-League career, Bellinger dealt with various injuries that affected his performance. This season, he has struggled, having a batting average of .208 with twelve home runs. He is a streaky hitter and would not repeat his 2019 MVP campaign. While his offensive struggles have unquestionably frustrated him, Bellinger has not allowed his offensive battles to interfere with the supreme defense in center field.
