Under a blazing Los Angeles sunshine on Saturday afternoon, the Dodgers demonstrated power.

During spring training, Dustin May could not pitch in an exhibition game. He had a strained oblique. Saturday, May made his second start of summer camp. Whereas he allowed a monster home run to Edwin Rios, who wants to make the team, May pitched well in four innings.

To go with his blazing fastball and hard slider, May has worked on his curveball and changeup. If he learns how to change speeds effectively, he will be a fantastic Major-League starter. Saturday, May demonstrated great control. With LHP David Price opting out, May has a legitimate chance of making the Major-League roster.

Since Mookie Betts came to the Dodgers from the Boston Red Sox on February 10th, the city of Los Angeles and the Dodgers had been buzzing. Many baseball-knowledgeable people consider Betts the second-best all-around player, just behind Mike Trout of the Anaheim Angels, in the Major Leagues.

So far, Betts hasn’t performed outstandingly in a Dodger uniform. At 27, Betts has amazing speed and good defense in right field. His strong and accurate arm will be an asset to the Dodgers. Along with Cody Bellinger in center field and either Joc Pederson or Chris Taylor, Betts gives the Dodgers the best defensive outfield in the National League.

Betts has historically had slow offensive spring trainings. During spring training, an awful case of food poisoning slowed Betts. During summer camp, his offensive timing has off a little until today when he homered off the 2019 Dodger Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

The February trade with Boston was a good one for both teams. Betts brings a winning attitude to the Dodgers. He earned the 2018 American League MVP and was a member of the 2018 world champion Red Sox. However, some good American League hitters need time to adjust to seeing National League pitching. With a 60-game season, Betts does not have the luxury adjusting to new pitching.
