On a windy Sunday afternoon in Surprise, Arizona, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a bad day, despite scoring eight runs. They lost to the Texas Rangers 9 to 8.

Although Julio Urias had an excellent three-inning outing, he had a bad pitch to former Dodger Willie Calhoun. Urias’ 95-mile-per-hour fastball broke Calhoun’s jaw. Tomorrow, Calhoun will be reevaluated. After the third batter of the bottom of the first inning, the game seemed unimportant.

This spring Dodger Cody Thomas has been the biggest surprise at Camelback Ranch. His five home runs lead the Cactus League. When he plays, he usually makes excellent defensive plays. The likelihood of Thomas, who has options, of making the Dodger Opening Day roster is slim. Nevertheless, watching the youngster having a magnificent spring makes exhibition games fun.

Mookie Beets’ upset stomach was food poisoning. With food poisoning, people get dehydrated, so the Dodgers want to keep Betts out of a game until Wednesday. People even slightly dehydrated are more likely to strain a muscle than most. With Opening Day less than two weeks away, the Dodgers do not want to take a chance of Betts getting a strained muscle.
