The Los Angeles Dodgers missed the services of Edwin Ríos during the 2021 season, and they hope Ríos will play an integral part during the 2022 season.
With Justin Turner aging, unless the Dodgers re-sign Corey Seager and move him to third base, Ríos is the heir apparent to replace Turner. Over the last two seasons before getting injured, Ríos improved his defense, increasing his range. He has a strong accurate throwing arm.
At no time during the 2021 season, Ríos did not look like himself. He did not display his incredible power. His .078 batting average with one home run disappointed everyone. Early in May, Ríos underwent surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his right shoulder. The Dodgers hope he will return strong next season to strengthen the Dodger offense.
