Edwin Rios

Re-signing Justin Turner is complicated by the emergence of Puerto Rican rookie Edwin Rìos. Rìos has amazing power.

Rìos has not been known for his defensive skills. In 2020, he improved his defense at third base, but he would be a better first baseman than third baseman. Since Rìos has long limbs, he would have long reach for erratic throws. The Dodgers do not have a regular second baseman unless Gavin Lux improves both his offense and defense, but they need to move Max Muncy to second base.

During his professional career began in 2015, Rìos has displayed incredible power. If he could decrease his strikeouts, he would be an awesome power hitter. In 2020, Rìos had 123 at-bats and 39 strikeouts. He had a .250 batting average with 8 home runs and 17 RBI. He also had limited at-bats during the postseason but had 2 home runs.

Rìos has a bright future. If Major League Baseball keeps a universal designated hitter, Rìos will have more opportunities than he might get without the DH.
