On the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, the Los Angeles Dodgers inched out the San Diego Padres 5-to-4 during a hot night at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers kept pace with the San Francisco Giants, but they are still 2½ games out of the National League Western Division.
Walker Buehler bounced back from his rocky outing against the Giants when he pitched seven innings and allowed two runs. At times during his outing, he struggled with his control.
In the third inning, the Dodgers manufactured two runs when Gavin Lux doubled in Cody Bellinger, who walked, and later scored on Mookie Betts’ sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Betts blasted a three-run homer. For the first time since April 2018, the Dodgers did not waste any scoring opportunities.
Blake Treinen toiled for 2/3 innings allowing two runs, but both Joe Kelly and Kenley Jansen were brilliant.
