During the 2022 season, Hanser Alberto was the Los Angeles Dodgers’ unofficial mascot even though he disappointed the team with his poor offensive production. The Dodgers have a $2 million option on their enthusiastic utility player, and many Dodger fans want Alberto and their favorite team part ways.

Since the Dodgers did not use Alberto much during the season and left off their playoff roster, the fans perceived Alberto did not do his job well. Known to hit against left-handed pitchers well, Alberto had a .279 batting average versus left-handed pitchers while he had a .173 batting average versus right-handed pitchers.

With Trea Turner playing daily at shortstop and Gavin Lux and Max Muncy playing at second base, Dave Roberts did not have a place to play Alberto unless the team used him as a pitcher in a blowout game. As a pitcher, Alberto did well.

If the Dodgers suffer injuries to infielders during the 2023 season, they will need Alberto. Two-million-dollar insurance policy is cheap in baseball nowadays, and the Dodgers need Alberto’s boundless enthusiasm.
