On Halloween, Major League Baseball announced the Los Angeles Dodger Justin Turner won the Roberto Clemente Award, and this is a great honor for him whom devotes his free time to the community of Los Angeles. At 38, Turner had an up and down season offensively, and he did not perform well. The Dodgers have a $16 million option on Turner for the 2023 season. While many Dodger fans do not want the Dodgers to pick up Turner’s option, Turner needs to retire as a Dodger.

Many Dodger fans blame Turner for the unexpected Dodger early exit of the NLDS, but it was not Turner’s fault. As Dodger President Andrew Friedman said, the Dodger early exit was organizational failure. Yes, Turner did not get crucial hits with runners in scoring position, but most Dodgers could not hit with runners in scoring position.

Turner has diminished range at third base and limited arm strength from third base. Freddie Freeman saved many throwing errors for Turner along with his fellow infielders. Since Dave Roberts knew Turner’s fielding had deteriorated, he did not play Turner much at third base.

After a slow start offensively, Turner had a great offensive performance in the middle of the season. It seemed every time the Dodgers needed an important hit, Turner delivered.

Turner’s baseball talent and intelligence are what the Dodgers need on the bench. Turner might not be in his prime, but his guidance will benefit for the 2023 Dodgers.
