On a picturesque Memorial Day at Dodger Stadium, to celebrate manager Dave Roberts’ forty-ninth birthday, the Los Angeles beat the Saint Louis Cardinals 9-to-4.
Both Chris Taylor and Gavin Lux when they drove in six runs. Taylor and Lux had back-to-back home runs, and later Lux added another homer. With the bases loaded and two outs, Taylor had a remarkable 14-pitch at-bat that ended with an important two-run double. After missing two games, Mookie Betts showed signs of coming out of his season-long slump when he had a walk, hit-by-pitch, an opposite-field single, and an opposite-field double. Matt Beaty had a run-producing single.
In his few previous outings, Trevor Bauer struggled with his control, issuing too many walks. However, tonight his control was much better when he gave up only one walk. While Bauer allowed three home runs over his 6.2 innings, he dominated the Cardinals and struck out five.
Both Nate Jones and Phil Bickford pitched well in relief.
