While the Los Angeles Dodgers did not give Matt Beaty many opportunities to play during the 2021 season, he made the most of his opportunities. In the 2022 season, Beaty deserves more opportunities to play, but he might get better playing time with another organization.
When Beaty debuted in 2019 with the Dodgers, his favorite position was the batter’s box, his team perceives him as a poor defensive player. He can play first base, third base, and corner outfield positions, but his position is first base. Yes, he might not be a Gold Glove winner, but he can improve if he was given regular opportunity to play. If I were the Dodger manager, I would put Beaty first base and move Max Muncy to second base where the Dodgers are weak. This will improve the Dodger offense.
After a poor April that involved a short stint at Oklahoma City, Beaty had a decent offensive performance in 2021. He had a .270 batting average with 7 home runs and 40 RBI. If the National League adopts the DH rule, Beaty would be a perfect DH. The Dodgers might benefit from trading him for young pitchers.
