Matt Beaty

After a breakout 2019 season, Matt Beaty did not begin 2020. His performance disappointed the Los Angeles Dodgers.

During his rookie season, Beaty in an interview with Alanna Rizzo of SportsNetLA told everyone, “My favorite position is left-handed batter’s box.” Beaty’s defense at first base, third base, and left field has improved but will never win a Gold Glove. His best defensive position is first base, but the Dodgers have better defensive options for first base than Beaty.

In Beaty’s rookie season, he had a .265 batting average with 9 home runs and 46 RBI. He had great knowledge of the strike zone. However, during the abbreviated 2020 season, he never got his batting stroke to his 2019 season standards. He could not adjust to the inside pitch. He only had 50 at-bats. His .220 batting average with 2 home runs and 5 RBI did not convince manager Dave Roberts to give Beaty more playing time. During the 2019 postseason, Beaty had no hits in three at-bats.

The Dodgers need to consider trading Beaty. Although he might blossom into an excellent hitter, he might not be a mediocre hitter.
