For personal reasons, I have not been able to watch the Dodgers since last week. I am not prepared for this article. Please bear with me. I will be prepared for Opening Day.

On a picturesque Thursday night at Mesa, Arizona, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-to-2. A week away, the Dodgers open the regular season at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies, who lost their best starter Kyle Freeland for at least a month with a shoulder problem.

Still learning, Dustin May was brilliant Thursday. Even though he still refines his breaking pitches, he has probably made the roster. His two-seam fastball is just nasty. While the Dodgers envisioned May as a starter, he probably will begin the regular season as a reliever.

Either Tony Gonsolin or Jimmy Nelson has earned the fifth spot in the Dodger rotation. Thursday, the Dodgers put Nelson on the 40-man roster.

Sheldon Neuse, an utility fielder who came from the Dodgers from the Oakland Athletics in the Adam Koralek trade, was sent to the Minor-League camp.
