On a beautiful Thursday evening at Dodger Stadium, Tommy Lasorda is smiling down from heaven on his birthday when Mookie Betts’ pinch-hit enabled the Los Angeles Dodgers inched out the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-to-2.

Julio Urías again pitched great, but he couldn’t get out of the sixth inning. He allowed only one run. Evan Phillips, Alex Vesia, and Brusdar Graterol performed well, but Craig Kimbrel allowed a solo home run.

Zac Gallen was marvelous for eight innings, striking out, but in the fourth, Will Smith tripled and scored on Max Muncy’s double. To open the ninth inning, Cody Bellinger doubled and scored on Muncy’s infield hit. Betts’ pinch-hit single drove in Freddie Freeman, who was intentionally walked.
