On a beautiful Tuesday night at Petco Park, the San Diego Padres inched out the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-to-2.
Max Muncy’s return to the lineup did not help the offensive production, and the Dodgers scored one run in the eighth and Austin Barnes’ ninth inning pinch-hit home run. Trying to play with the stomach flu, Mookie Betts left the game after the fifth.
While Clayton Kershaw allowed two home runs over six innings, he was magnificent. He struck out seven and walked two. Frustrated by the narrow strike zone, Kershaw struggled with his command, but he managed to dominate the Padres.
Victor González, Blake Treinen, and Jimmy Nelson were marvelous.
