Tuesday, Pasadena Police Department cleared Trevor Bauer of all charges. The Los Angeles Dodgers must wait to see if Major League Baseball will see if Bauer will be suspended for his off-field behavior.

Bauer could not play for the last 81 games and the playoffs. While he was an active, he was a super pitcher, and he liked many innings per start. Over his seventeen starts, he pitched 107.2 innings with 8 wins, 5 losses, and a 2.59 ERA. Although the Dodgers watch their starters’ innings per game, Bauer had the only Dodger complete game during the 2021 season.

Since Bauer has a high spin rate, many baseball-knowledgeable people think he used “sticky stuff,” which was banned by Major League Baseball in June. He is outspoken, challenging the league to make the new rule clearer. Many baseball-knowledgeable people expect Bauer’s dominance will decline when he cannot use “sticky stuff” to get a better grip on the baseball. While with the Cincinnati Reds, Bauer earned the 2020 National League Cy Young Award, and many casual baseball fans did not think any Major League pitcher should be rewarded a Cy Young Award.

Since Bauer has a combative personality, he does not endear himself to many people. He has a history of emotionally abusive toward women; therefore, many women dislike Bauer and want Major League Baseball to ban Bauer from competing.

As a woman, I do not like Bauer’s attitude toward women, but being a Major Leaguer is not a popularity contest. Many former Major Leaguers were not good citizens, but they were outstanding players, sometimes Hall of Famers. Ty Cobb was a fantastic hitter, a Hall of Famer, but he was a mean racist.

While I would wish every Dodger was a great citizen, they are not. The Dodgers desperately need starting pitching. Bauer is a durable veteran right-hander who knows how to win when he does not have his best stuff working. While I will never admire Bauer as a person, the Dodgers need Bauer, if he is not suspended by Major League Baseball, to compete for a chance to go to the World Series.
