In Cincinnati, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Reds 5-to-1. They remained 2 games behind the San Francisco Giants.

The trade for Max Scherzer will go down as one of the best in baseball history no matter if Josiah Gray and Keibert Ruiz will be future Hall of Famers. While Scherzer can’t lead the National League in wins, he is the leading candidate for the National League Cy Young Award. If he wins the Cy Young Award, it will be his fourth.

As a Dodger, Scherzer has an ERA of 0.78. Although he was battling himself for most of his seven innings, he held the Reds scoreless for seven innings. Not since Orel Hershiser’s remarkable September 1988, Scherzer has performed brilliantly. If the Dodgers repeat as world champions, they owe Scherzer much credit for this incredible feat.

Before the game, the Dodgers revealed Cody Bellinger has a non-displaced fractured rib. Although they expect Bellinger to play through the remainder of the season, he will be in pain. He has had a forgettable season mired by many injuries.

Gavin Lux’s two-run triple was the killer blow to the Reds who are fighting for an opportunity to play in the National League Wild Card game.
