This season, the Los Angeles Dodger bullpen is the best in the National League, but they have suffered many injuries. The latest injury is Yency Almonte with a sore right elbow. Many injured relievers will return soon, so heading into the postseason, the Dodgers should shorten the games for the opposition.

If Dodger fans knew the Dodgers would be without Blake Treinen, Daniel Hudson, and Victor González for most of the season, they would have thought the Dodgers will be in trouble. Brusdar Graterol has missed almost a month with right shoulder inflammation. Almonte has a sore right elbow but does not seem to be that concerned about his injury. While the Dodgers wanted Tommy Kahnle to play a crucial role in the Dodger bullpen, he has missed the majority of the season.

Except for Hudson, the injured relievers should be returned by the beginning of September.

Coming off Tommy John surgery that occurred in September 2020, Caleb Ferguson has not allowed a run in 13 innings. He has allowed only 3 hits. Before his second Tommy John surgery, Ferguson was throwing a slider, but now, he is throwing a traditional curveball. The opposition has been baffled by Ferguson’s fastball and curveball.

The biggest surprise of the Dodger bullpen this season is Evan Phillips. After claiming off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays, the Dodger organization changed Phillips’ grip on his slider to turn the pitch into an unhittable cutter. Phillips has shown a unique ability to handle the pressure in late games with a close score. He might be the Dodger closer during the playoffs.

Alex Vesia has been inconsistent, but lately, he has been spectacular. The emotional left-hander has earned two saves. While Vesia gets fired up whenever he takes the mound, he has demonstrated he can handle the pressure of late innings. He has shown he can save a game.

For the first time in his 15-year Major-League career, David Price has been a full-time reliever. While the Dodgers used Price sparingly, he has performed well in 29 games with a 2.70 ERA.

At the trading deadline, the Dodgers acquired Chris Martin from the Chicago Cubs to have more bullpen depth. Although Martin likes to allow home runs, he can strike out many hitters. The Dodgers need to do some of their magic with Martin.

While Craig Kimbrel earned many saves, he gives Dodger fans heart attacks. Kimbrel has struggled with his control. He has allowed many hits. It is doubtful that Manager Dave Roberts will trust Kimbrel to close the games during the playoffs unless he has a fantastic August and September. The Dodgers will employ a closer committee.
