On a beautiful Wednesday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers avoided the sweep by the Washington Nationals 7-to-1.

Andrew Heaney with left shoulder inflammation came off the IL to pitch four scoreless innings. Since the Dodgers have an overworked bullpen, they sent Mitch White, who has performed well in the Major Leagues, to Triple-A Oklahoma City. They also optioned Garrett Cleavinger to Triple-A and recalled Jake Reed. Heaney’s fastball was great and fooled the young Nationals.

After going 1-for-17 in the first two games against the Washington Nationals, the Dodgers exploded for six runs without the aid of a home run. Unlike in the first two games, the Dodgers linked hits together. Returning from missing five games because he had a tight rib cage, Justin Turner had an important hit, and Trayce Thompson continued his hot hitting. Neither Cody Bellinger nor Max Muncy played. In the eighth, the Dodgers added a run.

Phil Bickford, Alex Vesia, Reed who allowed a run, and David Price performed well in relief.
