The Major-League trading deadline has happened. The Dodgers acquired Joey Gallo from the New York Yankees for a pitching prospect. They sent Jake Lamb to the Seattle Mariners for the famous player for later, and they sent Mitch White to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The San Diego Padres got both Juan Soto and Josh Hader, so they won the trading deadline. However, they are 12 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Western Division, so it will be difficult to catch the Dodgers to win their division.

Many Dodger fans will be disappointed about the trading deadline, but the Dodgers have the best record. While Dodger fans want their favorite team to make a big splash, the Dodgers did not need a massive acquisition to go to the World Series. President Andrew Friedman did not want to jeopardize the future of the organization.

Gallo, 28, has struggled offensively but is a good defensive player. He can play all three outfield positions and first and third base. Many Dodger insiders think with the addition of Gallo means the Dodgers will platoon either Trayce Thompson in left field or Cody Bellinger in the center. Platooning Bellinger, who has had another disappointing offensive performance, with Gallo does not make sense since both are left-handers. Thompson has been a pleasant surprise, and he has hit .316 against right-handers even though he is a right-hander.

The Dodgers needed more depth on the Dodger bench. Although Lamb performed well as a Dodger, the team did not have a role for Lamb. He is a good hitter, but he is not a good outfielder. When Edwin Ríos returns from a serious injury, the Dodgers will need room for Ríos.

White will be a good Major-League starter, but the Dodgers do not have any room on the forty-man roster for him when Blake Treinen, Victor González, and Walker Buehler return.
There is no way for anyone can say the Dodgers win the Major-League trading deadline. The Padres won the trading deadline, but overcoming a 12-game deficit will be difficult for the Padres. From spring training, the Dodgers have proven the best team in the National League. Even with their new players, the Padres are not in the same class as the Dodgers and the New York Mets.
