On a Friday evening, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants 3-to-2 in eleven innings. They trailed the Giants by a game. If Will Smith, playing first base for the first time in his professional career, could have kept his foot on the base, the Dodgers probably would be playing still.
David Price should have started Friday’s game, but due to a sore elbow, he could not pitch. The Dodger bullpen of eleven relievers performed marvelously even though they had control problems. Saturday, Julio Urìas must go deep in the game unless the Dodgers promote more pitchers, but the Giants have two bullpen games since their starting rotation has been decimated by injuries.
While Corey Seager had four hits, the other Dodgers struggled against the Giant pitching. In the top of the ninth, Chris Taylor, who has been slumping, singled in the tying run. In the tenth, Walker Buehler, running for Albert Pujols, scored on Trea Turner’s sacrifice fly.
