On the day when it was announced that Hall of Famer Tom Seaver died, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-to-2 in ten innings.

Will Smith singled in Chris Taylor for the winning run.

On the day that Major League Baseball named Kenley Jansen was the best reliever in the National League, he struggled with his command. Although he did not have any command, Jansen got out of the bases-loaded jam with only one run.

Walker Buehler came off the Injured List with a blister. Although he struggled with his command during the second inning, Buehler pitched brilliantly for five innings.

Caleb Ferguson, who has performed well this season, allowed a solo home run to Christian Walker, which looked like a winning run until Mookie Betts’ ninth-inning home run. Blake Treinen, Brusdar Graterol, and Victor González performed magnificently.

The Diamondbacks have an ace and not named Madison Bumgarner. Zac Gallen, a rookie, had perfect control through his seven-plus innings. He worked the corners and changed speeds expertly, similar to Hall of Famer Greg Maddux. Gallen allowed a single to Betts and two walks to Smith and Joc Pederson. Cody Bellinger missed his second consecutive game since he had a lat muscle.
