The last Dodger batting champion, Tommy Davis, before Trea Turner won it in 2021, died. The eighteen-year Major League Baseball veteran was 83.

Davis was known as a nice man but could hit. After being born in Brooklyn, New York, a phone call from Jackie Roosevelt Robinson convinced him to sign with the Dodgers. From 1959 to 1966, Davis played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he won two National League batting championships in 1962 and 1963. After leaving the Dodgers, Davis jumped around until he retired in 1976.
