Saturday, the Los Angeles Dodgers placed Blake Treinen on the IL. The bullpen is a concern for the Dodgers entering the postseason.

Treinen who had been a mainstay for the Dodgers in 2020 and 2021 has missed most of the 2022 season. Many doctors would have recommended season-ending shoulder surgery for Treinen, but the injury had scabbed over in July. That was when Treinen started the rehabilitation process. The rehabilitation process had gone flawlessly.

Now, Treinen has right shoulder tightness. While Treinen could return for the postseason, he probably will miss the rest of the season. According to manager Dave Roberts, it is Treinen’s lat and not shoulder capsule.

Although the Dodgers have been reasonably healthy during the 2022 season, the relievers have suffered injuries. But, still, the Dodgers still have one of the best bullpens in baseball. however, in the postseason, the Dodgers must have a superior bullpen to win a world championship.

Craig Kimbrel has been better since he has adopted Let It Go from Frozen as his walk-in song. He hasn’t allowed a run since then. He has been dominating the opposition, and the Dodgers must have a dominating Kimbrel during the postseason, particularly with Treinen probably out for the year.

Evan Phillips is the biggest surprise for the Dodger bullpen during the 2022 season, but lately, he has toiled. For most of the season, Phillips has been brilliant. He could have been a closer before the beginning of September, but since then, he has been allowing hits and runs.

Brusdar Graterol has been on the IL with right elbow inflammation. A week ago from Friday, Graterol had an MRI, and it revealed no structural damage. He has resumed a throwing program, and he is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday.

Yency Almonte, another pleasant surprise, has been on the IL with right elbow since early August. He will throw a bullpen session on Sunday but need a rehabilitation assignment. The Dodgers hope Almonte can return for the playoffs.

While Tommy Kahnle has not pitched much in 2022 since his Tommy John surgery in August 2020, he is on a rehabilitation assignment in Oklahoma City. The Dodgers hope Kahnle can contribute to the team during the postseason.

Caleb Ferguson, coming off Tommy John surgery in September 2020, has been remarkable this season. While Roberts has used Ferguson sparingly, he has thrown 27 innings and allowed 5 runs. If Ferguson can maintain his dominance, he will be an asset during the postseason.
Alex Vesia has been a healthy asset in the Dodger bullpen. His enthusiasm has been contagious. Sometimes, he has had rough outings, but as the season proceeded, Vesia has improved.

After having a breakout season, Phil Bickford has had up and down season. Since his command has not been good, he has made several trips to Oklahoma City and Los Angeles. He has improved.

The acquisition of Chris Martin has been a Godsend. While with the Chicago Cubs, Martin allowed many home runs, but with Los Angeles, he has been almost perfect. If Martin remains healthy and effective, he will be an asset.

The Dodger bullpen will tell the story during the playoffs. If the Dodger bullpen is effective, the Dodgers will win the World Series. If the bullpen struggles, the Dodgers will have a disappointing season despite having a fabulous regular season record.
