Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed right-handed reliever Blake Treinen to a two-year $17.5 million with a club option for 2023 for $8 million. Also, former Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda was released from the hospital. However, Sunday, Sandra Scully, the wife of former Dodger broadcaster Vin Scully, lost her long and courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Treinen’s comeback season of 2020 benefitted the Dodgers. At 32, Treinen was a reliable setup man. His 98-mile-per-hour two-seam fastball is almost unhittable. He can produce many ground balls. With his experience as a closer, if Kenley Jansen doesn’t regain his dominance, Treinen can become a closer.

During the 2020 postseason, Treinen shone with a 4.76 ERA. Treinen didn’t exhibit any nervousness no matter what kind of situation manager Dave Roberts used him in. President Andrew Freidman understands without a strong bullpen the Dodgers can win another world championship. This offseason he has acquired Corey Knebel from the Milwaukee Brewers and Garrett Cleavinger from the Philadelphia Phillies.
