Wednesday the team led by Kiké Hernandez beat the team led by Justin Turner.

Despite allowing two runs in the first, Alex Wood had better command of his pitches than his last outing. His pitches had tremendous downward movement, baffling the hitters. Coming off a poor 2019 season with the Cincinnati Reds caused by a back injury, Wood wants to regain his 2017 form. So far in 2020, Wood has dominated everyone during both spring training and summer camp.

This year is the first when Julio Urias has no restrictions. Last off-season Dodger President Andrew Friedman announced Urias would join the 2020 Dodger starting rotation. In both spring training and summer camp, Urias has a willingness and confidence to attack the strike zone. His ability to change speeds effectively will make him a dominating left-handed starter for many years to come.

Since 2014, Turner has been the heart and soul of the Dodgers. Before signing a Minor-League contract with the Dodgers, Turner was a utility journey infielder with both the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Mets. Turner almost always delivered runs that his team needed. For the first time since Adrián Beltré after the 2004 season. If the National League did not have Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies, Turner would have earned two National League Gold Gloves.

Turner won co-MVP in the 2017 NLCS. When Turner with a fractured wrist missed the first six weeks of the 2018 season, the Dodgers were a last-place club. Immediately, upon his return, the Dodgers began looking like a World Series-caliber team.

At 35, Turner may be entering his last season as a Dodger. Since playing in Los Angeles, he has been a pillar of the community, volunteering and contributing to many local charities. The Long Beach native was honored with his own day during January 2019 by the City of Los Angeles, and his wife Kourtney has participated in the LA marathon.

Turner is a notoriously slow starter in his power statistics even though at the end of the year, he typically has at least 20 home runs, and in 2019, he has 27.

Many people debate if the 2020 world championship will mean the same as a regular world championship. To this group of the Dodgers, who were victims of cheating during the 2017 and 2018 World Series, it will be sweeter because they know everyone will be playing with the same advantages and limitations. Seeing Turner winning a world championship in a Dodger uniform will be special.
