On another beautiful day at Coors Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies 4-to-2.

Before the game, the Dodgers put right-handed Tony Gonsolin on the ten-day IL with shoulder inflammation. Gonsolin worked hard through the offseason and had a fantastic spring training. Many Dodger fans were surprised when he did not earn the fifth spot in the Dodger starting rotation, but he did not perform well in his last start against the Anaheim Angels.

The Dodgers used the Colorado starter’s wildness and an error to score three runs in the first inning. Will Smith hit the first traditional home run for the Dodgers in the 2021 season.

For the first time during his career, Julio Urìas pitched seven plus scoreless innings. He mixed his pitches well. He used his changeup more than ever, and his new breaking pitch baffled the Rockies. For the first time since July 4, 2014, a Dodger pitcher went seven innings at Coors Field.

Jimmy Nelson pitched poorly again when he lost his control and allowed a two-run double. Corey Knebel recorded his first save as a Dodger.
